Weekend weather: Britain set for hottest days of the year thanks to Spanish plume

BRITAIN will bake in its hottest days of the year this weekend thanks to hot air from Spain.
The 30C snap is good news for 180,000 soggy music fans at the Glastonbury Festival and for the 40,000 tennis fans at Wimbledon tomorrow.
But thunderstorms and possible flash flooding will follow next week.
After another 18C day of sunshine and showers today, the Met Office said a run of three dry days starts with the mercury hitting 23C across the South tomorrow, with 20C in the North.
Sunday will sizzle at 29C in the South East and 26C in the North. Monday is even hotter for the South, with 30C likely in London and 25C in Yorkshire.
Temperatures are set to be the hottest this year, beating the 28.1C recorded in the Solent, Hants, on June 3.
The heat will spark thunderstorms late on Monday or from Tuesday.
The hot snap is due to the Spanish plume system, pulling hot air from southern Europe, that during early May gave us temperatures of 25C – 10C above average for that time of year.
Forecaster Jonathan Powell said: “High pressure is delivering summer’s second salvo of great weather. But the plume will probably get shunted away to the east during Tuesday or Wednesday.
“Glastonbury will have a super end on Sunday. But it won’t last.”
